State Playoffs- The night started well with Lane jumping to an early 6-0 lead at Warren, ranked #7 in the latest Chicago Tribune poll. After Warren scored on their next possesion, Lane again moved the ball well before an interception killed the drive. Another interception and fumble gave the momentum to the Blue Devils, who never looked back in scoring 46 straight points. Quarterback Matt Richard was 15-32 for 175 yards with 1 touchdown pass and three interceptions. Xavier Torres carried the ball 4 times for 19 yards and cught 4 passes for 66 yards and the lone Indian TD. Brandon Carter carried 4 times for 32 yards when it looked like Lane was making a comeback. William Moorehead rushed 9 times for 28 yards with 5 receptions for 38 yards. Fuad Salami caught 5 balls for 57 yards, Glaesser 1 for 15, and Williams 1 for 10.
City Playoffs- Lane lost to Dunbar 34-26 to end their hopes for back-to-back Prep Bowl appearances. Matt Richard finished the game 22 of 36 for 273 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Matt also ran for two touchdowns. Xavier Torres caught 11 passes for 162 yards and also carried three times for 8 yards and a touchdown. Brian Sullivan scored on one of his 2 receptions for 41 yards and Fuad Salami caught 4 passes for 29 yards. William Moorehead rushed 7 times for 15 yards and Brandon Carter once for 3 yards.
Game 8- Lane beat Curie 33 to 17 to win their 6th conference title in the last 7 years and again qualify for the Illinois State Playoffs. Lane dominated again on offense and defense. The defense was led by Shawn Davis, who intercepted a pass and returned it for a touchdown, and Brian Wasilk, who not only picked off a pass, but caused a fumble too.
On the offensive side of the ball, Matt Richard passed with precision, going 9 of 13 for 126 yards and one touchdown. He also ran in for a score. Xavier Torres ran 8 times for 51 yards and caught 5 passes for 44 yards while scoring three touchdowns, two on the ground and one in the air. William Moorehead ran 23 times for 74 yards and only missed another 100 yard game because a penalty reversed a 50 yard gain. Brandon Carter rushed 7 times for 37 yards while Fuad Salami caught three passes for 35 yards. Mike Vergara also caught a 21 yard pass.
Game 7- CVS- Lane improved to 5-2 overall and 4-0 in the Illini Red Bird Conference with a dramatic 45-44 win at Gately. Lane was up by 15 points with only 1:57 left on the clock. CVS staged a furious rally to get within a point. CVS then tried for the win with a two-point conversion but Lane's defense stopped them cold for the victory. The game was a seesaw of action with Lane only touching the ball three times in the first half, yet scoring on two of those possessions. On the other hand, CVS only completed 12 passes but those passes combined for 277 yards and 6 touchdowns (CVS QB threw for 5 and caught 1). Lane held CVS to only 76 yards rushing.
Offensively the Indians were dominant again with William Moorehead and Xavier Torres continuing their assault on opposing defenses. Moorehead gained 11 yards on 20 carries and 2 touchdowns with a two-point conversion. Xavier caught 2 passes for 36 yards and ran for 18 yards on 5 carries with 2 critical two point conversions, while Brandon Carter ran twice for 14 yards. Matt Richard completed 7 of 11 for 139 yards and 3 touchdowns with one interception. Matt also ran for a TD. Fuad Salami caught 3 passes for 78 yards and 2 touchdowns in a breakout performance. Brian Sullivan also contributed a touchdown for 7 yards.
Game 6- Whitney Young- Lane improved its confererence record to 3-0 with a resounding 42-0 victory over Whitney Young. William Moorehead rushed 16 times for 151 yards and two touchdowns continuing his assault on opponet's defenses. Xavier Torres caught a touchdown pass as did James Glaesser and Brandon Camacho. Matt Richard also snuck one in for a touchdown. The defense pitched their 3rd shoutout of the season.
Game 5- Steinmetz- Lane Tech played Steinmetz on a beautiful Autumn Saturday evening and came away with a 46-0 conference victory. As has become their custom the 2005 team spread the ball evenly throughout the offense and the defense played flawlessly. The defensive line, linebackers and defensive backs all played their roles as they displayed excellent teamwork. The offense was again led by William Moorehead with 120 yards and 3 touchdowns (he also caught a pass for yards). Brandon Carter was also over 100 yards rushing (105 to be exact) with a touchdown. Matt Richard was 12 of 17 for 211 yards and 2 touchdowns with his favorite receiver being Xavier Torres again with 168 yards on 10 receptions and a touchdown. Mike Vergara contributed a touchdown recption on a 14 yard pass play, Koshion Barfield snared one for 20, and James Glaesser one for 5 yards.
Game 4- Mather- An important conference game against Mather who have been Lane's Illini Red Bird conference's most challenging opponent the last few years. Lane came away with a dominant 34-13 victory and a stellar performance by Xavier Torres who caught touchdown passes of 28, 19 and 33 yards. He added icing on the cake with a two point conversion catch. Three other Lane receivers got in the action as James Glaesser had 3 receptions, Fuad Salami caught 2 and Geoff Krumweide captured 1. William Moorehead again broke through the 100 yard barrier with 137 yards on 29 carries. The offensive line created running room for William and Brandon Carter who gained 22 yards on 6 carries and scored a touchdown. Once again the defense set the pace, holding Mather to 3 first downs.
Game 3- Simeon- A heartbreaking loss awaited the Indians on the South Side. On the first two drives in the game, two touchdowns were called back on an illegal motion penalty and a holding call. Instead of being up by 14 points, the Indians did not score. Lane finally broke the ice on a short run by Xavier Torres but missed the extra point. The defense was stellar in the first half and held Simeon's offense to a total of 3 yards rushing the ball with minimal of passing yardage. In the second half, Simeon ran back a punt return with one minute left in the 3rd quarter and made the extra point. A series of unfortunate events then occurred with the Indians committing three turnovers after. Simeon took advantage by completing a long pass that put them close to the goal line where they took it in for a 13-6 lead. With less than 30 seconds left in the game, Simeon scored on a 77 yard touchdown run by the quarterback to make it 19-6. Lane Quarterback Matt Richards was 7-18 for 116 yards, 3 interceptions and a fumble. Xavier Torres caught 3 passes for 46 yards, James Glaesser 1 for 10 yards, William Moorehead received 1 for 43, and Emmanuel Sullivan 2 for 16 yards. Moorehead ran for 70 yards on 19 in the 1st half, Xavier rushed for 15 yards on 5 in the first half, and Brandon Carter was 6 for 25.
Game 2- Waukegan- A breakout game by the offense and defense was led by Brandon Carter scoring a TD on the second possession. The 40-0 victory at home against Waukegan was alos highlighted by Fuad Salami's two blocked punts, one of which he recovered and brought back for a touchdown. The offense was clicking on all cylinders as the running game was dominant with William Moorehead going over 100 yards for the second game in a row aided by excellent downfield blocking by Brian Sullivan. Anthony Staggs also scored his first TD of the season. Matt Richard led a very crisp passing game by going seven for eleven with 4 of those passes going to Xavier Torres for 45 yards. The defensive highlights included an absolutely dominating performance by Durrell Jamison playing Tackle and Noseguard and leading the team in tackles.
Game 1- Lockport- Led by Junior Running Back William Moorehead's 119 yards rushing, Lane lost 28-13 to a tough Porters team. The game was much closer than the scores indicates. A near-miss touchdown pass on the goal line in the first quarter and a 65 yard touchdown pass that was called back due to a penalty were the difference in the game. The Indians looked tough on both sides of the ball with the running game looking especially effective. The defense forced a number of fumbles from Lockport's Terrence Dillard and knocked him out of the game more than once, but he bounced back to gain 181 yards on the ground with two touchdowns.
